Hire the Best Talent!

I will take on projects and clients of virtually any size. I usually take on small projects alone and tap other resources for larger projects and those beyond my personal skill set. I believe in assigning work to experienced professionals. If you need a simple brochure, that’s me. If you need an instructional video, I’ll bring in some of my favorite camera operators, editors, writers and voice talent. If you have a large catalog that needs a lot of original copy and photography, let’s bring in a writer and photographer. If I’m not a good fit for your project, I’ll tell you up front and refer you to my favorite talented colleagues.

Strategic

Let’s not design something just to look pretty. There should be a reason for choosing specific design elements and strengthening the message to your audience. My goal is the same as yours – deliver the right messages to your specific audience.

Software

I am seasoned in all industry-standard software, and very comfortable in most related applications. And I'm always open to try new tools!

Roots

I was born in the eastern suburbs of the Twin Cities and grew up in Amery, Wisconsin. I went to UW-River Falls and UW-Stout where I received a BFA in Graphic Design. During college I worked as a Prepress Specialist for Helmer Printing in Beldenville and later as the Production Manager at The New Richmond Newspaper. Upon graduation, I moved back to the Twin Cities and spent seven years as a Graphic Designer and Art Director at the Best Buy corporate headquarters. Since 2004, I’ve been freelancing and taking short term contract work. I work primary from my home office in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. I am a husband and proud father of two girls. We travel a bit and do typical Minnesota things like snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, camping, watching sports and other shenanigans.

Priorities

First and foremost, I am a husband and father. Family comes first, then clients and projects. (Then the recreation and shenanigans mentioned above.) Having said this, rest assured your projects will get done. I ALWAYS meet deadlines. I look forward to work and take every project seriously. As much as possible, I try to under-promise and over-deliver.

I currently work on a project and contract basis and I welcome projects of any size. This includes everything from a simple brochure to a new website or a full brand development. My workload varies greatly, but I always make room for small projects and welcome discussing larger contract work.

Experience

I started my career waaaay back in 1994 and I’ve been blessed to collaborate with many great people in a variety of industries. I’ve also worked in just about every medium imaginable. Since then I’ve taken on a variety of roles from prepress to graphic designer to art director and from illustrator to writer and project manager.
